About my Journey

I am a busy mom of 3, step mom of 1, PTA president, Girl Scout leader of 2 troops, and student. I have wanted to eat healthier for years but I had a few concerns.

1. I do not know what is healthy and what’s not! Face it, the “experts” don’t agree, change their minds all the time and there is so much information out there it is overwhelming.

2. I can’t cook! Okay maybe I can but this is something that scares me.

3. I am busy! Preparing fresh food is hard. However, I am realizing more and more that we need to find time to take care of ourselves. Eating junk to save time is not an option if it results in spending time at doctors later on because we have messed up our health!

4. Eating healthy is more expensive! Yes, it can be. I am still a little worried about this but I am hoping that by using my own ingredients to make fresh things we will actually end up saving money. Also, how expensive is it? If our grocery bill increases slightly right now but we save money later by not needing medicine, doctors, etc, isn’t it worth it? We need to start spending money on our health NOW.

5. My husband wasn’t on board. Yes, I would make him eat whole wheat bread but when he ran to the store he’d by junk bread no matter if we needed bread or not.  He would eat most of what I made but was not on board. Finally, he watched documentaries and is ready to take action!

I want to blog about our journey to help other families and our own. I will try hard not to be too preachy. Also, I don’t think anyone has all the answers. I am not an extremist. I can not commit to anything too extreme such as being vegan. I can;t even say we will be true vegetarians.  I also will admit we have no intention of giving up fast food completely. I also hate the idea of saying that something is off limits. I feel like doing this sets you up to want it more. I also know that ultimately we will have to change everything about the way we are eating but it will be a set of steps to get to our ultimate goal. We might stumble upon the way but I think we can do it.
